Formerly a third and fourth-grade teacher, Nicole Castile made such significant progress with her students that she was asked to help improve student achievement by accepting the position of academic coach in January of 2015.
As an academic coach, Castile works one-on-one with teachers to implement best practices and ensure progress across the curriculum. She meets weekly with teachers to analyze and interpret data, guaranteeing that students’ needs are met through rigorous instruction, as well as planning sessions to deconstruct standards and create meaningful and engaging lessons. She also models explicit direct instruction in classrooms to create high expectations for students and teachers.
Castile’s teaching excellence impacts the school as a whole. She formally trains K-5 teachers within her building and district on state and district initiatives. In addition, Castile serves on the school’s leadership team and mentors new and veteran teachers. Beyond academics, she is on the campus' positive school discipline team, dedicated to instilling important values in every student she encounters.
