: Nancy Varian is the director of the Center for Professional Development at Malone University in Canton, Ohio. Previously, she served as Principal and Curriculum Director at Magnolia Elementary in Sandy Valley Local School District and as a 3rd grade teacher and Library-Media Specialist at Osnaburg Local. In 1994, she received a Christa McAuliffe Fellowship by the U.S. Department of Education. During that year she worked with colleagues to write a successful 3 million dollar National Science Foundation Grant to change the way that science was taught and learned in their county for K-6 students. Nancy is a National Board Certified Teacher and has traveled to Egypt, New Zealand, and Australia with National Board Teachers. She also traveled to China with the College Board and to Japan as a Fulbright Memorial fellow. She and her family own and operate a 6th generation apple and peach orchard that also serves as a wedding and event venue. They host many field trips for children to teach them about nature, growing fruit, and the environment.
