Nancy Royal is the director of elementary curriculum for the Coweta County School System in Newnan. She previously served as the principal of Ruth Hill Elementary School in Newnan, prior to which she served as the school's instructional lead teacher, implementing such innovative programs as The PEACH Plan (Positively Encouraging A's in Children), the Dare to C.A.R.E. discipline program, and Afterschool Adventures. As a former kindergarten teacher at Elm Street Elementary School in Newnan, Royal initiated Stepping Stones, a hospital-based program that offers new mothers a package of readiness materials, including a list of community resources and an introduction to district educators. Royal also implemented Parents as Their Child's First Teacher, a videotape series with creative information to assist parents in becoming actively involved in the education of their preschoolers. In 1992 Royal received a Presidential Award for Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Teaching from the National Science Foundation.
