"It is my responsibility to help students identify their visions and help them find the path to that realization," says Nancy Monday, a career counselor at Monroe High School in Monroe. Ms. Monday is currently working on a "comprehensive K-12 Study Skills program" that she hopes to see implemented by Fall 1995. In the past few years, she has designed and installed several educational, guidance and professional programs in her school district. She has also offered these programs to other school districts through out Michigan. "Change is hard for many people to accept," she says, "but I find myself able to help others through the process in a positive fashion." Ms. Monday tries to foster the kind of supportive environment that will help students "realize that they must be responsible for their own learning." In her sixteen years in education she has had the opportunity to participate in many triumphs; the college preparation workshop she organized for minority students and the increase in college enrollment that resulted from it figure high on her list.
