Mona Tucker is executive director of Northwest Georgia's Regional Educational Service Agency (RESA) in Rome. RESA is one of 16 regional agencies that share educational services in order to improve the effectiveness of member school systems, and helps the Georgia Department of Education promote its initiatives. Previously, Tucker was principal of Nickajack Elementary School in Smyrna, which in 2001, during Tucker's tenure, was one of eight schools to be named a National School of Character by the National Character Education Partnership. Nickajack was also selected as the only elementary school in Georgia's Project Winning Ideas Network of Georgia Schools (WINS) initiative, which provided the school with funding for a full inclusion program. When Tucker was principal of Dowell Elementary School in Marietta, her innovations included multi-age "family" groupings, in which several grade levels were taught in one classroom, and a computer-based music education program. Tucker was also selected to participate in the Governor's Leadership Institute.
