Mike Tomlinson, fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Bridgeport Elementary School in Tualatin, helped create the Bridgeport Environmental Laboratory, an outdoor learning lab built, used and maintained by students, parents, staff, and community members. An expert science teacher, Mr. Tomlinson has developed a partnership with a local university to share information and resources in the area of science teaching, chaired the science committees for both the school and the district, and lead a Goals 2000 staff development project on science education. He also hosted family math and science nights to boost parental support, conducted frequent in-service workshops on science and technology, and was the school's primary liaison with district, state and national science education programs.
