Michael Stanton is principal of Charles G. Taylor Elementary School in Foxborough and is Title I director of the Walpole Public Schools. In these roles, he has helped secure multiple grants to improve school resources in math and literacy and assembled a committee of teachers to focus on math instruction and resources. His innovations include the creation of a "math closet," a resource for staff and parents filled with a wide array of math stories, manipulatives, supplies and games. Stanton is also developing "math backpacks" containing math games for the entire family to play with during the summer. His innovations to improve literacy include the introduction of DIBELS to K-2 teachers and the expanded use of the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA) in grades K-4, as well as intensified efforts to identify student reading levels and appropriate strategies to target areas of weakness. Stanton also helped create a leveled library in the school's media center and provided each classroom teacher with 100 leveled books for their classroom libraries.
