Melanie Hocking teaches chemistry and biology at Indian Creek High School in Wintersville where, working with a colleague from the elementary school TAG program, she has developed programs that encourage a multi-age, cooperative approach to science. One such program, "The Magical World of Science: A Multi-Age Cooperative Venture," offers high school students the opportunity to serve as tutors and mentors to elementary school students in a laboratory setting. Ms. Hocking is also responsible for an at-home science enrichment program that teams students with their parents. These, and other programs developed by Ms. Hocking, have elicited a successful response at state and national conventions on the education of gifted children. A 1995 Ohio Teacher of the Year, Ms. Hocking earned her Master of Law Degree from the University of Virginia in 1987.
