Maureen Ryff is a teacher and principal at Wheatland High School in Wheatland. As a French and social studies teacher, Ryff oversaw Wheatland's debut participation in "Close Up," a national program that invites students to study for a week in Washington D.C. and provides them with other opportunities to meet government officials. She also introduced the Wheatland High School Academic Decathlon and coached its championship team. She is currently state director of the Wyoming Decathlon program. Ryff participated in the pilot project for the state-legislated initiative WYO.BEST (Better Education Through Standards and Technology) and mentors teachers statewide in the program. Ryff has also served on the school improvement team and the district technology integration committee. "Being principal at Wheatland High School enables me to work together with teachers and the community in our school improvement initiatives. My real enjoyment is in the classroom, and continuing to teach social studies keeps me 'grounded' in what's really important—the students."
