When Matthew Ludwig became director of bands and fine arts chair at Marquette Senior High School in Marquette, so many students wanted to join the marching band that the school ran out of uniforms. Maintaining high expectations within a structured yet flexible program, Mr. Ludwig has seen many of his students outperform their competitors at regional and state music festivals. He organizes and hosts a district-level band and orchestra festival, and was involved in orchestrating and promoting a highly acclaimed student performance of The Music Man. Inspiring students through his own example, Mr. Ludwig plays second trumpet with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and choreographed Northwestern University's half-time show for the Rose Bowl. He serves on a variety of school- and district-level school improvement and professional development teams.
