Matt Naugle, fifth-grade teacher at Prairie Wind Middle School in Perham, fosters creative problem-solving and nurtures student communication and synergy through a variety of strategies. These include challenge courses, in which students must find academic solutions to physical problems and interactive simulations that help students apply curricular concepts to real-life situations. As the district's assessment specialist and graduation technician, he trains teachers and students to understand and meet the state's new graduation standards, and is helping to develop assessment packages and a tracking system for schools to use in incorporating these standards. Mr. Naugle is also the chairperson of his building's leadership team.
