At Whitney Young Elementary School, a high-poverty school in Louisville, technology coordinator Mary Robertson has helped improve her students' learning and her fellow teachers' instruction through technology. Before many area high schools had student technology teams in place, Mrs. Robertson's student leaders were championing technology in education, and even made a presentation before the state legislature. She obtained a grant to establish the Accelerated Reader program at Whitney Young Elementary, dramatically boosting not only the number of books read by students, but their reading test scores as well. An early participant in the district's cooperative graduate program with the University of Louisville's Technology Leadership Institute, Mrs. Robertson is the school's primary technology staff development trainer.
