At Central City Elementary School in Central City, teacher Mary Ann Payton brings the excitement of science and math to her fourth-graders through hands-on learning. Ms. Payton serves as the school's technology coordinator, overseeing hardware and software issues and conducting workshops to expand students' and teachers' technological competency. Active in professional development, she is currently working with university professors to help teachers teach science in grades K-6, and provides consultation to schools on a variety of issues. In addition, Ms. Payton and a colleague established a community/school performing arts program that involves students in collaborative productions with local theaters, and developed units for teaching the performing arts in the classroom.
