Mark Nohner, social studies teacher, curriculum director and coach at Lake of the Woods Senior High School in Baudette, helps ensure high achievement for each of his students. Working with a paraprofessional from the national Assurance of Mastery Program, Mr. Nohner trains senior honor students to provide remediation tutoring to younger students who fall below the 60th percentile. He is a graduation standards specialist, and has made presentations on the subject throughout the state. In the classroom, Mr. Nohner teaches a "Local Historians" unit in which students apply social science concepts and research skills to a local historical setting; they then present the results of their research in an audio-visual documentary.
