Marian Lacey is assistant superintendent for secondary schools for the Little Rock School District in Little Rock. Previously, Lacey was principal of Horace Mann Arts and Science Magnet Junior High School in Little Rock, where she reminded students and staff of the qualities necessary for successful human interaction by blanketing the campus with posters displaying the "4 R's"—Respect, Respond, Reach and Rally. To help all students become successful learners, Lacey created an Early Morning Tutoring Program for students in need of extra assistance, and enlisted National Junior Honor Society members to provide peer tutoring. She also designed a program called Extra Exerted Effort, implemented by Mann's counselors, which recognized and rewarded at-risk students who demonstrated significant improvements in performance.
