Under Principal Mari Brabbin's leadership at Eagle Point High School in Eagle Point, the number of students taking the SAT has increased threefold, and the number of students going to college has increased by 50 percent. Ms. Brabbin developed an individualized learning plan in which students can select alternatives to traditional classes, such as volunteering at a hospital instead of attending a health class. She created the Options program to help at-risk students learn how to succeed, and the Eagle Center to advise students how to take advantage of post-secondary opportunities and scholarships. Within one year, financial aid and scholarships increased from $200,000 to $1.7 million. During her tenure, the school's dropout rate has decreased markedly and academic scores have improved consistently. Ms. Brabbin developed the Portland State University cohort program for administrative leadership in the region and helped implement diversity training at Eagle Point High School.
