Margaret Wirth, math teacher at J.H. Rose High School in Greenville, teaches her honors and advanced placement students more than math. By having them write a history of their math learning and the people who have influenced their success, students reflect for the first time on how math has impacted their lives. Mrs. Wirth's extensive professional development experience includes a year as Teacher-In-Residence in the Math Department at East Carolina University, where she collaborated in improving the university's math education pre-service program. She has worked as a classroom observer for a district-based teacher quality project funded by the National Science Foundation to improve educators' skills in science, math and technology.
