Stanley Buchanan, who is the music administrator at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, became an educator to "rescue young adults from mediocrity." Mr. Buchanan claims that he himself was such a young adult until his path crossed with that of an exceptional music teacher who "inspired me with his impassioned teaching style." Educators according to Mr. Buchanan have become in many cases the pivotal adult influence in a student's life; consequently, educators should show utmost responsibility in how they wield their influence. As an administrator, Mr. Buchanan also thinks that the educational establishment must make a special effort to incorporate parents into the educational process. Mr. Buchanan believes that educators must also educate parents about their children's education. The direct involvement and support of parents in their children's progress are essential to the "resurgence of high aspirations on the part of the students," he says. Mr. Buchanan would like to continue to have the "opportunity to help students fulfill their dreams."
