In teacher Lynn Emery's fourth-grade classroom at Lancaster School in Lancaster, activity-based programs, integrated curriculum and music stimulate different learning styles and increase student comprehension. She often takes her students on field trips throughout the state and organizes a Kids Vote program for the entire school so that students can experience an election. Her background in special education allows her to maintain high standards for all her pupils while individually addressing each child's instructional needs. A mentor to fellow teachers, Mrs. Emery serves on Lancaster School's Language Arts Committee and the Social Studies Curriculum Committee and is a facilitator for the North Country Educational Foundation, helping area teachers align their social studies curricula with state standards.
