Biographical Information

Lissa Dulick captures her students’ attention through innovative instructional methods, including the use of Socratic circles to draw opinions of Shakespeare and the examination of paintings to find parallels to Frankenstein. One of her students shadowed a CNN reporter in Atlanta. Another published an article in an online newspaper.

Dulick employs problem-based learning and develops creative projects to stimulate interest and enhance critical thinking skills. She encourages the class to revise work based on her feedback and helps students track their growth along the continuum of their projects. Through this process, students can experience how a writing sample becomes a reflective essay. A proponent of keeping parents abreast of their children’s progress, Dulick created a parent newspaper and leads a parent orientation for incoming freshmen. She is also credited with helping the school increase its language arts scores by 10 percent, including a 20 percent rise in special education scores.

Dulick sponsors school-based clubs, served on the AYP Improvement Panel and led district professional development courses. Additionally, she helped realign Weir High’s English curriculum and developed a transition course that will be piloted across West Virginia. National Board Certified, Dulick delivered a keynote at West Virginia University and is leading a cohort to promote the distinction in the county.

Dulick is currently working at Oak Glen High School in New Cumberland, WV teaching English. After achieving certification as a library media specialist, Dulick is working closely with a media team and the principal to redesign the current library into a 21st century media center. Next year she will serve as the LMC for the school, collaborating with the faculty to facilitate cross-curricular research projects. You can follow the progress on Instagram @oghsmediacenter.
