Language arts teacher Leah H. Doster Barnett uses a variety of effective teaching methods to keep her students focused on learning at Kimball High School in Royal Oak. She treats students as individuals, creating a profile for each student and using data to inform instructional decisions. Ms. Barnett frequently works with colleagues to discuss student improvement and devise interdisciplinary lessons. She has co-presented several professional development sessions on multiple intelligences and gave a presentation on effective strategies for implementing outcomes-based school improvement at the North Central Association (NCA) State Conference. A true educational leader, Ms. Barnett was named chairperson of the Language Arts Department after only five years at Kimball High School. She serves as a co-chair of the district's K-12 Language Arts Curriculum Committee and co-chaired the team that coordinated Kimball's NCA Outcomes Accreditation process.
