Lawrence Dorsey-Spitz teaches grades 4-5 at Hellbeck Elementary in a new, interdisciplinary, thematic approach to team teaching and exploration known as the "HOUSE" Project. He uses anything he needs to motivate his mostly poor, mostly minority students, and his range of resources includes music, poetry, videos, murals and other artwork. Mr. Dorsey-Spitz also invites parents and local business people to visit his classes in order to provide further challenges for his students. He has served as a member of the Colorado State Science Task Force and the Colorado Alliance for Science, and he is currently president-elect of the Colorado Association of Science Teachers.
