Laura Candler is a leader both to her fifth-grade students and to her fellow teachers at E.E. Miller Elementary School in Fayetteville. She was instrumental in developing the Academically Gifted Plan for her school system and developed the school Web site, for which she won North Carolina's Best Web Site Award. A nationally-recognized expert on cooperative learning, Mrs. Candler has written several books on the subject and mentors other teachers through a series of workshops called "Cooperative Monthly Energizers." She is a National Board Certified teacher, and chairs a leadership committee that supports and advises other teachers in their quest for National Board Certification. She also chairs the School Improvement Team and the Technology Committee.
