Larry De Romine, a math and algebra teacher at Lamar Middle School in Prowers County, has been active in strengthening the math program throughout his entire district. Serving as the district's math curriculum specialist, he initiated algebra courses and developed the math and algebra computer lab; he also established the "Math Counts" program as a competitive extracurricular activity. Mr. Romine recently served as master of ceremonies for Lamar's Colorado 2000 town meeting. In addition, he created the Lamar Middle School Support Bank to provide food, shoes, and sports equipment to economically deprived students in the community.
