In addition to being a first-grade teacher at Margaret Newton Elementary School in rural Tiptonville, Kim Hawks was a math, literacy and writing specialist, as well as a school improvement facilitator. She implemented a range of innovative instructional programs to help her at-risk students across the curriculum: the SUCCESS program in reading, the research-based Everyday Math program, and the technology-based Windows on Science program. A frequent presenter at various professional development seminars and workshops, Mrs. Hawks was a teacher consultant for the West Tennessee Writing Project. She was also co-chair of the school's Site-Based Leadership Team and received three Goals 2000 grants.
In 2023 Kim Hawks retired from Education.
