Kay Hollifield, assistant principal and gifted education teacher at County Line Elementary School in Winder, involves students in creative projects with real-world applications. Her Cookie Factory project teaches children about economics as they become producers, laborers and consumers, while her Tomato Company project has students borrowing money from a local bank for soil and tomato seeds, which they repay by selling the tomatoes they have grown. One of the school's first teachers to incorporate technology in her instruction, Mrs. Hollifield has written and received grants to purchase technology and received state recognition for her innovative technology-based teaching. Mrs. Hollifield has chaired the School Improvement and Pay-for-Performance Committees and helped County Line Elementary earn a National Blue Ribbon School Award.
