Kathy Anderson, fifth-grade teacher at Lafayette Elementary in Lincoln Park, a Title I building, makes hands-on learning central to her classroom practices and a key to student achievement, but her teaching does not end with the final bell. She also runs before-school homework help sessions, coordinates the Summer Science Camp, and participates as a judge in the Science Fair. In addition, she is a leader in curriculum development and is active in the teachers' union. Working with the Downriver Math and Science Alliance and the school Curriculum Committee, Mrs. Anderson has been instrumental in aligning the school's curriculum with the Michigan Frameworks and sets an example for the staff on implementing the objectives.
