Kathleen White is now retired. At the time of her award, second-grade teacher Kathleen White's energy and initiatives contributed to Harrisville Elementary School in Harrisville being named a National Blue Ribbon School. These initiatives included a "life lab" science program featuring indoor and outdoor growing labs, small hydroponics labs, and various hands-on equipment and materials; Make A Book, which integrated writing and art; and an after-school remedial education project. Mrs. White also developed S.T.A.R.S., a program that encourages teachers to spend time outside class with at-risk students, and is currently implementing the school's new character-education program. Her other leadership roles included site-based technology specialist and technology team chair. Additionally, Mrs. White was a member of the Teacher Advisory Board for Time for Kids magazine, a Time, Inc. publication.
