As a principal of Mission Avenue Elementary School in the San Juan Unified School District in Sacramento, Karen Nemetz has put into effect an open-structured program which focuses on student motivation and parent involvement. She works closely with her staff in developing curriculum and regularly participates in classroom activities. She is involved with state and national organizations through which she makes presentation on her work with literature-based language arts programs. Ms. Nemetz's efforts have garnered the school both state and national Distinguished School awards.
