At Glasgow High School in Glasgow, science teacher Karen Branham's laboratories, authentic assessment and real-life learning enliven her biology, earth and space science classes. She secured funding to develop a saltwater aquarium that is maintained by her independent study biology students and each year Ms. Branham and her students attend a marine biology camp in the Florida Keys. The science club's successful after-school Science Enrichment Program has grown into a district-wide program that matches club members with third and fourth graders for hands-on science activities. Ms. Branham developed a mandatory freshmen-level integrated science course and led efforts to align the district's science curriculum with state standards. An experienced workshop facilitator and mentor teacher, she chairs Glasgow High School's professional development committee.
