Juliette Romero Benavidez is principal of the Henry T. Jaramillo Community School in Belen. Previously, Benavidez was a bilingual resource teacher for fifth and sixth graders at the New Blue Intermediate School and a bilingual education teacher at Ann Parish Elementary and Desert View Intermediate Schools. By implementing the Spalding "whole language" method, Benavidez improved the language skills of the region's many immigrant students-some by as many as two grade levels. She also employs a dual-language model, teaching half the day in English and the other half in Spanish. An active school and district leader, Benavidez has chaired numerous educational committees.
