Julia Blumenreich, fourth-grade teacher at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, is a published poet who makes poetry and the arts integral to each child's education. She has written and secured numerous grants to promote the arts, facilitated an artist-in-residence program, and turns the most basic lessons into an adventure that sparks the imagination. In her school-within-a-school, "Germination Academy," students not only hatch and raise quail, but also collaborate with local scientists to understand anomalies that sometimes occur. She obtained a grant to participate in a worldwide water-testing project through the National Geographic Kids Network. Ms. Blumenreich coordinates the Lower School's Community Service program and serves on the school's Diversity Committee.
