Before accepting her new position as math resource specialist, Judith Leonard taught sixth grade at the Narragansett Pier School for 20 years. She also served as mathematics coordinate for grades K-6 in the Narragansett school system. Ms. Leonard has led the way in revising the mathematics curriculum for Narragansett elementary schools, and has developed a criterion-referenced test for mathematics. She serves on the Executive Board of the Rhode Island Math Teachers Association, and is a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the International Reading Association of Rhode Island. In 1990 and 1991, she received the Presidential Award for teaching of elementary mathematics in Rhode Island. In 1990, she was Rhode Island Math Teacher of the Year.
