Principal Joyce Spraggs's collaborative approach to school governance has helped improve student achievement at Beaver Ridge Elementary School, a Title I school in Norcross, where half of the students are transient. By establishing an Instructional Support Team that allows teachers to share best practices, Ms. Spraggs has boosted student test scores in reading and math. She has formed numerous partnerships with local merchants to mentor, tutor and provide assistance to welfare families of Beaver Ridge Elementary. Parental involvement has increased, thanks to her Families in Action (FAST) program which designates neighborhood contacts to publicize school events. Her support of learning technology has resulted in computers for every classroom, a productivity lab, and a technology coordinator to assist students and teachers.
