Until recently, Joseph York taught English at the University of Memphis after retiring from 30 years of public school teaching and 25 years of adjunct college teaching. At the time of his Milken National Educator Award, he taught English and American government at Adamsville High School in Adamsville. He is currently president of the National Teachers Hall of Fame. He also serves on the Board of the Flint Hills Humane Society, Inc. Mr. York was in the first class of teachers inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame (1992) and served three years on the Board of Trustees.
