Mr. Jonathan Jou's classroom is a "working laboratory," with students engaged in activities designed to improve their command of the English language. His unique instructional approach captures students' interest; many walk around school with dictionaries and calculators in hand, testing themselves so they can show Mr. Jou what they have learned. While many of his students have never spoken English before entering his classroom, a high percentage score "advanced" or "proficient" on the citywide standardized tests.
