Although McDermitt Combined School is a small rural school in the remote border town of McDermitt, its principal, John Moddrell, has acquired significant technology equipment for the school, making its technology program one of the best in the state for small schools. He also helps students learn job-related computer skills through the Career Technology Program, a school-to-work program he developed. Concerned about the education of all his students, he implemented Success For All, a national program that uses innovative strategies to help low- scoring students improve their scores, thereby reducing the need for special education programs. Mr. Moddrell further expands his students' understanding by taking them on camping trips, round-ups and other adventurous activities.
