Jennifer Gaab, who teaches fourth grade at Jefferson School in Beaver Dam, has written outstanding standards-based curricula for the language arts, literacy and math, which are contributing to improved student learning. The proof: students following her math program are scoring in the 96th percentile on standardized tests. Miss Gaab models concern and involvement for students' well-being in many other ways as well. She was instrumental in developing the school's conflict resolution program, coordinates the peer mediation program, and supervised a program called Birthday Books, which gives books to children on their birthdays. A member of the school leadership team, Miss Gaab often mentors new teachers and leads district in-services on learning strategies.
