Jeanne Page, who teaches third grade at Lincoln Park Elementary School in Sparks, creates a family environment in her classes. We are a family striving for the success of all its members, she says. At her school, Mrs. Page has helped develop and implement a library reading program for first through sixth graders. The program replaces basal with literary reading materials in an effort to improve students' reading habits. She has also helped create a program that groups third grade students according to ability in various subject areas, each taught by a different teacher as part of a team teaching arrangement. Mrs. Page received a Presidential Award for the Teaching of Elementary School Science from the National Science Foundation in both 1993 and 1994.
