Jane Edwards, industrial technology teacher at Lincoln Southeast High School in Lincoln, uses video and computer technology to teach her students about such events as the collapse of buildings and structures due to damaging vibrations. In her unit entitled "Resonance in Structures: Designing for Disaster," Mrs. Edwards’ students create computer simulations and working three-dimensional models to study how the devastating effects of natural disasters such as earthquakes may be minimized. Each year, through a program called Ventures in Partnership (VIP), Mrs. Edwards’ advanced architecture students work with a local architectural firm to devise a solution to a design problem which they then present to professionals in fields related to the project theme.
