Under principal Jacklene Jones' instructional leadership, Bank Avenue Elementary School in New Iberia met its two-year academic growth target in a single year. With many years as a middle-school reading teacher under her belt, Ms. Jones made reading achievement a main concern at Bank Avenue Elementary School, incorporating Project Read strategies across the curriculum. She began each school year by introducing students to the school's character education curriculum and created an extensive student and teacher incentive program to recognize and reward outstanding achievements. Her school was the first elementary school in the parish to be networked with instructional technology, and she provided her staff with ongoing professional development on using technology to enhance classroom instruction. Ms. Jones is a certified trainer for the Louisiana Teacher Assistance and Assessment Program. Jacklene retired from the Iberia Parish School Board after 40 years of service, 19 as a teacher, 5 as a principal, and 16 as the Director of Human Resources. She is currently a Field Supervisor with Iteach Louisiana. Jacklene coaches teachers working on their initial certifications.
