Irene Llewellyn teaches second grade at Lauren School in Bloomfield. Knowing the importance of parents' involvement in their children's education, she has developed a program to bring them into the process. Ms. Llewellyn asks parents directly for their support, sends them monthly progress reports on their children, and encourages them to take part in the planning of many class activities. She also teaches parents supportive educational activities that they can use at home. Ms. Llewellyn uses a computer in her classroom to develop written expression and problem solving skills, and teaches professional development computer workshops for teachers. She was named Bloomfield Teacher of the Year in 1985.
