Idella Harter is a teacher at the Sherwood Heights Elementary School in Auburn. Previously, she taught first, second and third graders in a multi-grade setting at Western Avenue School in Auburn, where she helped establish a multi-age system allowing students to maintain stable school relationships and a greater attachment to their school over the years. Harter was president of the Maine Education Association, which represents more than 25,000 educators throughout the state, and has appeared numerous times before the Maine Legislature as an advocate for better classroom conditions.
