Fifth-grade teacher Holly Concannon finds creative ways to give all students access to a high-quality curriculum at Richard J. Murphy Elementary School in Dorchester. Several of Mrs. Concannon's students have won writing contests, many have been published in Scholastic magazine, and all perform well on standardized tests. Mrs. Concannon's classroom is frequently visited by colleagues within and outside the Boston Public Schools as a model classroom. On her own time, she gives demonstration lessons and courses for other teachers. Mrs. Concannon participates in Developing Mathematical Ideas institutes at Mount Holyoke College, is a master teacher for the Boston Teacher Residency Program, and volunteers for Project D.E.E.P. (Dorchester Educational Enrichment Program), which is designed to prepare Boston elementary students for admission into several of the city's private schools.
