Principal Helen Milloy has boosted literacy throughout Hopewell Elementary School in Collins by implementing the Accelerated Reader and Reading Renaissance programs and encouraging students to take home library books every night. To bolster student learning beyond the classroom, Mrs. Milloy created a series of workshops called the Mini Parents University, aimed at teaching parents effective ways to help their children at home. She was instrumental in acquiring networked computer labs for all the schools in the district, and trains teachers in applying the new technology to their daily curriculum. Mrs. Milloy also administers the Onward to Excellence schoolwide improvement process at Hopewell, allowing the entire school community to be involved in evaluating the school program.
