Harriet Dickerson's concern for her students is evident in both the quantity and the quality of the time she spends with individual students to help them succeed. As a special education teacher at Manila High School in Manila, Ms. Dickerson believes that taking a personal interest in her students' academic progress is essential, and she spends much of her night and weekend time helping them identify, strive for and achieve their academic goals. She also spends much of her time helping her students acquire summer jobs and has worked with community agencies to provide college tuition and expenses to students who otherwise would not have had an opportunity for further training.
