At Russell Primary School in Russell, librarian and media specialist Greta Casto helps ensure that her students become lifelong learners. Information literacy and literature appreciation are the overall focus of her scheduled library classes. A National Board Certified teacher, Mrs. Casto provides information access to students, teachers and parents while teaching them how to access the information independently. In order to help educate students most effectively, she initiated flexible scheduling of the school's Library Media Center, which resulted in a dramatic reduction of the teacher-student ratio. Since implementing the new schedule, the school has seen significant great gains in its test scores. Mrs. Casto serves on the planning committee for the Library Media Specialist Cadre, coordinated by the Kentucky Education Development Corporation (KEDC). She recently presented a cadre session on "Advocacy for your Library Media Center." Mrs. Casto is president of the Eastern Kentucky School Media Association.
Mrs. Russell is currently the Chief Information Officer for Russel Independent Schools.
