Named Iowa's Secondary Principal of the Year in 1996, Gerald Waugh, principal of Jefferson-Scranton High School in Jefferson, has developed an outstanding program of education technology at his school, attracting visitors from over 300 other schools who wish to learn about Jefferson-Scranton's success. At the core of the school's technology program is a county-wide microwave system and a microwave link with the community college system, both of which enable classes to be transmitted to smaller neighboring districts, providing secondary enrollment options and dual-credit programs with the community colleges. With over 25 years of experience as an educator, Mr. Waugh's influence, encouragement and positive attitude have helped many in his staff to win outstanding awards themselves.
