George Mansfield, principal at Cherry Creek's Summit Elementary School, strongly promotes affirmative action, site-based leadership, success for every child, respect for the individual, and personal accountability. He has implemented many innovative programs, including a model "whole-language" program, a science enrichment lab, a multi-cultural school renewal effort, and a program in which teachers appraise other teachers. When parents arrive at his school they know they are welcome, because the first two rows of parking are reserved for them. Mr. Mansfield, who attributes his success to his staff, has been elected to leadership positions in educational organizations at local, state, and national levels.
