Genia has worked in education for 19 years. For 13 of those years, she taught middle school math. She has had the opportunity to teach grades 6th-8th in a variety of educational settings including public charter, urban Title I, suburban schools and non-traditional programs. In 2006, Genia began providing professional development for school districts in the area of mathematics for elementary and middle school teachers. In 2008, she added best practice instructional strategies and classroom management to her catalog of sessions. The Next Level Educational Group, LLC is the vehicle by which she shares her passions and experience to empower other educators. Her workshops have been instrumental in changing the perception that middle school teachers, especially math teachers, can't be creative. One of her original ideas, Coordinate Plane Aerobics, was published in "MORE Best Practices for Middle School Classrooms: What Award-Winning Teachers Do." In 2012, Genia was asked by Greenville County Schools (SC) to be the math teacher in a new program called Greenville Early College. The program is designed to reach "at-promise" students who traditionally have high drop-out rates in the district. The program targets students who have the opportunity to be first generation college students. After teaching at GEC for two years, she was promoted to Instructional Coach. In June of 2014, Genia joined the Discovery Education Professional Development Team as a consultant. In addition to her duties at the Early College, she traveled the country sharing her passion for education with teachers by providing quality professional development experiences and instructional coaching. It was her desire to positively impact as many students as possible by helping to develop teachers. In July 2016, she became the first Manager of Talent Development for the Discovery Education Professional Learning Team. Her primary role was to recruit, hire, develop and coach the consultants on the Professional Learning Team as they traveled nationally and internationally impacting educators every day. Genia is now pursuing her passion for coaching and mentoring educators in new ways. She is focused on developing the "next generation of teachers." Through The Next Level, she will be offering professionalism workshops and coaching for those new to the profession. In addition, Genia works as an adjunct instructor and directed teaching supervisor at her alma mater. She is also working as an external coach for new educators pursuing alternative certification in Greenville County. She continues to consult and is always looking for opportunities to have a positive impact on teachers and their students.
